In this project, the tongue symbolises both the immense power of women and the condemning voices that try to contain it. The installation is a large velvet tongue that protrudes from the wall and rests on the ground. On it lies a set of headphones. The visitor can relax on the tongue while listening to the poem ‘Luxuria for our times’, that mixes voices and a heartbeat to create an intimate encounter with the lustful graces who have Venus in their hearts, Kali in their mouths, Medusa in their hairs and Bes between their legs.
When shown at the Master’s exhibition, the installation was brought to life by dancer Isabella Arboleda Tovar, who offered visitors communion wafers bearing images of Medusa and Bes. Isabella also performed a powerful choreography she had created especially for the project.
